As promised, here is a recap of some more of the great wines we've enjoyed recently. This time around we focused on wines provided by Pasternak Wine Imports. They offer some of the best quality and value wine selections from France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile and California. If you are interested in any of the varieties, you can find a retailer or restaurant near you that carries Pasternak Wine Imports by visiting the website's "Find Our Wines" application. For more information and a list of all Pasternak Wines: Click here. If they are unavailable in your area, you can always find great deals online. Wine Chateau carries some of their labels.

TRUMPETER - RUTINI WINES
Merlot
2011
Mendoza, Argentina
Approximate price: under $10
Alcohol: 13.5%
Aroma: Dark berries and red fruits with hint of cinnamon
Taste: flavors of plum and red fruits, slightly oaky, velvety
Pairings and thoughts: Wow, a delicious Merlot, not bland at all which has been a common occurrence for us lately; has a soft, smooth finish; pairs well with chocolate and/or cheddar cheese or good enough to drink by itself. We found it pairs very well with Mexican Spicy Pizza!

TRUMPETER - RUTINI WINES
Malbec
2011
Mendoza, Argentina
Approximate price: under $10
Alcohol: 13.5%
Aroma: Strong berry scents with traces of cinnamon and spice
Taste: Intense fruit flavors of cherry, blackberry and plum with hints of pepper and chocolate
Pairings and thoughts: A solid Malbec bursting with bold flavors; smooth finish. Pairs best with steak (of course) or enjoy by itself.

BODEGAS CARO ARUMA
Malbec
2010
Mendoza, Argentina
Approximate price: $15 or less
Alcohol: 14.5%
Aroma: Deep earthy notes with dark fruit and floral scents
Taste: Strong flavors of plum and berries with traces of mocha, black pepper and oak
Pairings and thoughts: Another bold Malbec, this time brought to us by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (LaFite) and Nicolas Catena. This wine packs a variety of aromas and flavors that become more inviting as the the wine breathes. In true Argentine fashion, should be paired with a good steak!

LES DOMAINES BARONS de ROTHSCHILD (LAFITE)
Special Reserve Red Bordeaux Blend (Cabernet/Merlot)
2010
Bordeaux, France
Approximate price: under $15
Alcohol: 13.5%
Aroma: Cherries and black fruits with notes of licorice
Taste: Dark berries and plum, hints of dark chocolate and some oakiness but fruity finish
Pairings and thoughts: We both agreed that this was the best wine of the four and the best Bordeaux blend we have had so far. We were amazed by it's seductive deep red, purple color...a strong wine but very smooth with a silky finish. We must say it paired amazingly with rare steak. We were in heaven with this one and are new fans of Bordeaux blends. Looking forward to exploring more of them...
